The Neurobiology of Emotion
The conference is the first of a new series of high-level meetings on the neurosciences in Europe. Sponsored for the first time by the European Science Foundation (ESF) and The Federation of European Neuroscience Societies (FENS), these bi-annual conferences will bring together outstanding researchers in key areas of contemporary neuroscience to discuss current concepts and define challenges for future research.
Co-Chaired by Ray Dolan, University College London and David Anderson, California Institute of Technology, the meeting will address the fundamental challenges that exist in the field of Emotion. Dispensing with the safety net of a standard talk, the speakers will, instead, focus their contribution on the deeper issues on which their work touches. This conceptual-framework approach will be used to provide the broader context for the meeting where an explicit aim is to reach a consensus as to what are the fundamentals that link emotions and their associated behaviours. The format will eschew any necessary distinctions across species in order to explore the common principles that apply equally to drosophila, rats, monkeys as well as humans. The meeting aspires to promote a high level discussion around these core aspects of emotions including its clinical aspects.
